What is a smart lock?
A smart lock replaces or adds to your normal key lock. Instead of only a key, you open the door with a code, a fingerprint, a card or a phone. Many also let you give temporary access to guests or staff.
The main types
Most smart locks fall into a few groups. Each suits a different kind of home or routine.
- Keypad locks: you enter a code. Simple, and nothing to carry.
- Fingerprint locks: you touch a sensor. Quick, and your finger cannot be forgotten at home.
- Card or tag locks: you tap a card, which is handy for families or rental units.
- App-connected locks: you manage access from your phone, even when you are away.
What to check before you choose
Look at more than the features list. A good lock should work every day, in Dubai’s heat, for years.
- Does it fit your door? Doors differ in thickness and lock type.
- Is there a mechanical key backup if the battery runs out?
- How are batteries replaced, and does the lock warn you when they are low?
- If you rent, will your landlord or building allow it?
- Can you add, remove and change codes easily?
Why proper installation matters
Even the best smart lock only protects you if it is fitted correctly. A badly aligned lock can jam, drain its battery or leave the door loose.
Our technicians fit the lock, set it up with you and show you how to add codes and use the backup key. See our smart lock installation service for details.
A simple way to decide
Ask yourself who needs to get in, how often and from where. If you mostly want to stop carrying keys, a keypad or fingerprint lock is enough. If you manage guests or staff, look at one with app control. If you are unsure, call us and we will talk it through.
