A spare key saves a bad day

Most lockouts have one cause: there was no spare. A copy is one of the quickest, cheapest and most useful things you can do for your home.

How many spares do you need?

Think about who lives in the home and who might need access. As a start, aim for one spare for each adult, plus one kept somewhere safe.

  • One for each person who lives there.
  • One with a trusted friend or family member.
  • A separate one for the helper, if you have one.

Where to keep a spare

Do not hide a key under the mat, in a plant pot or on the door frame. These are the first places a thief looks. Instead, choose one of these.

  • With a neighbour or relative you trust.
  • In a small lockbox that uses a code.
  • With your building management, if they allow it.

Copy cards and remotes too

Keys are not the only thing you can lose. Building access cards and garage remotes cause the same trouble. We can help with key duplication and access card duplication, so you always have a backup.

Get a good copy

A poor copy can stick, wear out quickly or break in the lock. Use a trained key maker, and test the new key in the lock before you leave.
